The fit and finish is terrible. I don't know what it is, but I like it. I found several, some with broken blades, and have thought about repairing them and replacing the blades (I am an amateur slipjoint maker). It might be fun.
 
Love it! That slip joint has seen some good times by the look of the sharpening. Working on slipjoints must be very challenging to say the least.
 
Looks like it might be a "gas station special" from the 60's or 70's, back when "Made in Japan" was looked down on moreso than "Made in China" is today.

My Uncle (may he rest in peace) sold similar knives at his Phillips 66 service station (2 repair bays) around that time period.
It was before "convenience stores" and "self service" gas at the pumps (and "unleaded gas" for that matter) were invented.
