A while back I posted about an older knife that was in the shop for a new sheath:
www.bladeforums.com
In the comments some posted about the difficulty of getting one of these guys sharp as the edge trails into some very thick steel as it comes to an end near the ricasso. I had another customer send me another Old Timer that was literally covered in rust and gunk. He told me that the knife had great sentimental value to him and he asked me to clean it up for him a little and to build a new Horizontal sheath for it.
Underneath all the gunk and rust was this guy:
Someone using a stone wheel grinder had thinned out this blade and made a slicer out of it. While the work was rather crude the end result was great and solved the problems that several had mentioned in the post above. What say you?
Edited to change wrong pic.
Old Guy Gets New Pants:
Had a guy that runs a pack string bring me this old Schrade. He bought it off the bay for $15. He's fond of these knives and I've built sheaths for him before: He's busy this time of year running equipment etc into the back country for the Forest Service and the firefighters with his mules.
