Veering way off topic, but here goes. You can call me a geezer who doesn’t like change. Some change I like, but I don’t like sports teams moving to another city. It’s the Historian within. But I realize it’s the world and I do adjust.

Baltimore Colts; Houston Oilers; Minneapolis Lakers; San Diego Chargers; Oakland Raiders; Buffalo Braves; Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York (Baseball), Giants.

But, yah.... and it's really pathetic when the team names are TOTALLY out of place in their "new" cities ...

*L.A. is basically a desert with a glorified storm drain as it's "river" and yet they're still the Lakers?o_O

*I'd wager a majority of L.A. Dodger fans don't have a clue what an OG "Dodger" was :p

*And the most laughable, New Orleans lost the Jazz to..........Utah...haha...yup, don't know about you guys, but when I jam out to some Coltrane it puts me in the mood to hit the slopes at Nordic Valley.

Dante wrote that in the center of the ninth circle of hell, Judas, Brutus, and Cassius were being chewed up in Lucifer's three mouths. I like to think that Brutus and Cassius got their sentences commuted and were replaced with Art Modell and Bud Adams. So I guess you can call me a geezer too.

I live in Tennessee, and I watch the Titans...I'm glad they dropped the Oilers team name, it would have been as bad as Utah Jazz, imho...

Titans as a team name is cool and, at the time, they were sponsored by Adelphia...so it had a kinda Greek God myth vibe working...but I didn't like that they hijacked the old NY Titans nickname-- guess it wasn't protected any longer.

Bud Adams is an AFL legend, of course. But he was for sure an opportunist/robberbaron type character. He really took advantage of the government in Nashville and struck a sweetheart deal for himself and his family. But most Tennesseans are happy with the Titans regardless of the tax burden, so I guess it's a win/win overall. Folks in Houston, very loyal fans, got shafted big time, however.

Fmr. Oilers/Titans head coach/GM Jeff Fisher was giving an interview at a event I was at that I think gave an insight into Adams a bit. Fisher said he'd go to Adams and ask for the best free agents available at a given moment and Adams hardly ever questioned his choices or tightened the purse strings to get the guy on the roster. But Fisher said he got a straight up ass chewing from Adams for using name brand dry erase markers in the film room and practice facility when Dollar General Store had some for less than half of what he was spending....he said Adams actually researched that personally and brought him receipts to prove it.

Yes. If teams change venue, it’s better to adopt a more appropriate name. I do have an interest in Jazz. And Utah was not a significant area in the life of Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, or Benny Goodman.

Yeah, everyone knows it's a name/branding/business decision to keep the original monikers, but it sure makes for some real head-scratchers in the realm of logic.

Will Management change the Name of the Raiders to the "Las Vegas Gamblers"...The USFL Houston Gamblers wore Black/Red/Gray/White uniforms....Jim Kelly's first stop in his Hall of Fame Career.

Since it is big-business, I bet the Raiders brand will remain as it moves. That is what it boils down to; was the brand strong enough to maintain for business reasons?

I thought the start-up Golden Knights was a good choice of name - that could be taken to any city and still associate.

Gamblers would be a great name for a Vegas team!

best

The team struggling the most with Identity are the "Chargers"....Currently they are the LA Chargers playing in CARSON...Like the NY Giants/NY Jets Playing in Jersey....o_O

I agree. In the case of a relocation the name should fit the location.

The Raiders name and colors are probably the most recognized sports image in the world. Probably worth more than the actual team and its assets I suspect. Unless the city of Oakland wins its case and takes ownership of the name and colors, they will keep the same image in Vegas, but a gang of pirates in the desert is just silly.

The real problem is that this isn't new for the Chargers. Even when they were in San Diego, fans of visiting teams could easily make up half the attendance. It was my mom's favorite venue to catch a Steelers game and the stadium was always full of "terrible towels". Honestly, I believe the Chargers should have been rebranded, and that new team is the one that should have went to Vegas.

This is completely off topic. I have been looking for a Blind Horse Pathfinder Scout for over five years. It is my grail. If you ever decide to sell yours please let me know. Sorry for contacting you this way, but I dont know how to PM on here yet. Just a simple country guy. Cheers

Well, I did see a Bird once in S Utah, though.

Just sayin' . . . .

I’m glad Tennessee doesn’t have the oilers name, but mostly because the Oilers belong in HOUSTON! Luv ya blue!

Houston Texans... what a crapola, mundane team name.

Well, the Chiefs used to be the Dallas Texans, so say what you want about the name, but the Texans just won the Super Bowl.. Sort of.
