I bought this old HammerBrand jacknife w/celluloid from Ebay a couple of weeks ago, got a good deal on it.

I put an edge on the blades, and have carried it some. It's very rounded, smooth, light and rides easy in the pocket.

Today, it claimed its first victim. I work with the military, and one of the NCOs needed to borrow a knife today. He did the weirdest thing I've ever seen a person do to cut a piece of 550 cord. He opened the main blade partway, to about a 45 degree angle, looped the cord over it, and held it cupped in his fingers with one hand as he pulled the cord with the other. It looked like he was trying to saw through it with a dull serrated edge. I watched at first, and then started to tell him that it was sharp and he didn't need to fight with it, but it was already done, and he said, "yeah, I know!" and held up a bleeding finger.

Couldn't believe he did that. Bet he won't do it again!! :D

This was an NCO ?

I am totally amazed that 1. He did not have even a pocket knife of his own on him, and 2. He had absolutly no idea what he was doing with one when he did get his hands on one. Very sad.

Very nice little knife by the way. I'll bet it cuts real good. It looks like the typical 2 blade jacks we had in the late 40's and 50's.

I was surprised that he didn't have a knife, either, because I've seen him with a Gerber Gator before, on his belt. Guess he'd left it home.

Little Hammer does cut pretty well.

That was my first reaction! Then again, I still recall being in shock before I got out that there were NCOs who didn't drink coffee and couldn't drive a standard shift vehicle! squared.
