Has anybody heard of the "Philadelphia Tool Company"? I acquired a hand axe with the above stamped on the side of the blade, which is chisel sharpened. It's real old and in good condition minus the cracked handle, Ha.

I've heard of them. They made hammers & knives also in mid to late 1800's I believe. I think they got absorbed by the Fayette Plumb Co. that makes hammers.

As I was told from the man I got this from, The wedged blade on one side only was used to hollow out log ends so they could fit over other logs in building a house or barn and keep the logs securely held in place.
I'd like to know if any of ya'll have further information on this axe like, history, scarcity and possible value.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Now I'm going to try again to download the pictures

I'm pretty sure it's known as a "broad" axe
I know Keen Kutter makes some broad head axes that are popular with collectors

That is an old school font on that marking (at least it looks old to me)
I like it
Maybe you can find an old Philadelphia Tool Company catalog somewhere??
