Found this for $5.00, thought it needed a new handle. Turns out the wedge in handle was falling apart not handle itself. Replaced wedge and handle is tight again. Might put a bit of wood glue in top and stand up in vice for the night to let it soak in. Once it’s cleaned up I’ll have to sand handle down a bit to see what I have. Casting is definitely uneven, looking straight down from top you can see bevels are not even, where metal is shiny from sharpening. Using a fixture to rough in profile for sharpening, so sides should be even. I do like handle shape and fit in palm.

Anybody recognize this hatchet, I don’t see any marking.

looks like Marion Tool Co product

I buy up Plumb brand construction hatchets and redo them by regrinding an under cut a little, cleaning up the blade, re-bluing them and re-handling them with a longer handle. Camp Hawks!

That's a nicely shaped old handle.

Looks like a vintage Plumb boy scout hatchet to me.
Does Plumb still stamp their name into steel? I see old hatchets locally with Plumb stamped into them. Even know where a Boy Scout is sitting for sale. This one isn’t stamped with anything I have found.

Not sure if Plumb are all blued or not. This one was painted red, with handle painted white.

It's not a plumb, just the same style that they commonly made.
My guess is Marion tool co as well, but I thought most I've seen had a P stamped onto them
One of the giveaways for me is the handlw that looks like it was originally painted white.

Would it hurt the handle to try and clean up black paint spots with a bit of acetone or denatured alcohol? Was also thinking about cleaning up what I can of handle and sand it down a bit and putting boiled linseed oil on handle.
