I just posted a thread about a knife that I’m going to refurbish for a friend.

I have an image from a Henckels catalog dated 1915 with that same model number (38) so they made that since at least that date. They also made that model in one inch increments from 8 to 14. I'd suspect Henx stopped making carbon breaking knives about 1960+/-. My guess for dating your knife is 1930s-1950s, leaning toward the later.
