Anybody used an Old Hickory butcher knife with the 14" blade as a machete? Seems like it would be good for light machete work (I'll use one of my HI khuks for anything more than grass). They probably would have a better edge than a lot of the cheap machetes and run about $15.00 at Knivesplus.

I've sure hacked alot of brush and limbs (tree) with the 8 1/2 inch Old Hickory and never hurt one. Cheap knives, but tough!

When I was a kid, we would swipe an Old Hickory from the knife block and do just what you are asking. It works well as a light machete.
