The Old Hickory mods are always of interest to me, yet the threads on here are a few years old, so I am starting this one to show a blde modification I made to Old Hickory's cabbage knife. I thought I would try this version because the blade is flat ground vs the saber grind of the usual Old Hickorys. The blade is a touch thinner than the usual Old Hickorys, and the tip is slightly flexible. Should be a good slicer or skinner. Am thinking about adding a turkshead knot to the handle for a guard, and maybe cord-wrapping the handle.

handles are being replaced and blade shortened.

longer handle feels much better, osage will mellow to dark brown n time, and shortened blade is handier

thin blade is a great slicer

I like the horse apple handle, some of my favorite knife handle wood.

I do as well, love the way it turns a mellow brown with time and sunlight. have this Ontario sitting in a window sill and will post pix as it turns color
