Old Hickory Nessmuk

I've seen several people on various sites who have modified Old Hickory skinning knives into Nessmuk-style blades. I have an OH skinner, and I've already modded the blade, but I also want to do the handle, and I have a question. How do I get the traditional curve to the handle? Do I need to file the back bottom portion of the tang down? I've thought about extending the handle beyond the tang and putting the curve in the extended section...What do you guys think? Any pictures that might help?
