Gotta love the mods you can do to Old Hickory knives. I've wanted a seax for ages, but options were really limited in that regards outside of expensive customs. Then I found out that Ben(FortyTwoBlades on these forums) can take an Old Hickory 14'' Butcher's Machete and make it into this great looking seax:

Awesome looking, and far cheaper than any custom thanks to the great price of the blade it starts as.

Looks cool, what is it for? Never heard of a seax.

The seax(also known as sax or scramasax) was a weapon of Germanic tribes of the Middle Ages, most notably the Saxons who actually took their name from the knife, as well as being adopted by some of the Vikings after encountering them. Seaxes varied in size and design(this style is known as the broken-back seax, and was most frequently used in the British Isles), some were small utility knives used for cutting food and daily chores, some were as big as large Bowies and were used as sidearms/offhand weapons, others were sword sized and used as the primary weapon. The broken-back seax was designed to have a straight edge to minimize slipping, while still having a fine point.

I really like that, I might have to see about getting one for myself.

Got mine today, really happy with it. In addition to the blade mod, Ben also rounds the handles a bit making it more comfortable to hold, as well as putting a screaming sharp edge on it. It cost about $50 including shipping, so ot bad at all considering the work involved.
