Anyone make sheaths fpr old hickory butcher knives? I just got an older one and im thinking it might be the perfect frontiersmans like knife, im stunned by it!

I've heard about the older Old Hickory knives being a bit more robust and better built. Good to hear! I'm still scrounging for old Pre 60's Old Hickory and Chicago knives. Hard to beat true high carbon kitchen knives. My Grandmother swore by them. :) I have a few but they were "abused" by what I can only guess is a grinder wheel for sharpening, and handles that were soaked a little too often. A sad fate for most of them out there.

Now that said, given the overall dimensions of a true frontiersman sheath, they were made with usability with several brands and types in mind so your good to go there, but expect a very deep sheath as it was the norm. Sending a sheathmaker the overall dimensions and the style you want should do the trick. But there are several dozen frontiersmen style sheath patterns out there. Some pics of what "trips your switch" would help your makers immensely.

I do want to think Heber Ellsworth (sp?) does a lot of that kind of sheath. Then there is the masters of the frontier sheaths that I know you've seen in this forum from time to time, Cohea and Burrows. I've been known to make them too, but the price is about the same as a half dozen Old Hickory's. :o

Hope this helps a little
