Hi,

I was down at the local flea market today and found this in a box of odds and ends. I've seen these around for years, but have never picked one up. Couldn't pass on this one. What can you tell me about it (age, steel, etc)? It is stamped "Imperal" Prov. R.I. U.S.A. I have always liked old Imperials and have picked a few up, but all the ones I have purchased were folders that were made in Ireland. I have always liked these fixed blades, they made me think of some old saddle tramp's knife.

Thanks, Guys!

I have one of the Old Imperial fixed blades from Prov. R.I. that I gave $5.00 at a garage sale.
High carbon steel blade, takes a nice edge. "The grips are probably plastic that look like bone. Couldn't tell you about the age of it but all in all it is a good knife. Also have one of the little SAKs make in Ireland in stainless, a freebe from the NRA. Right nice little cutter. In later years if I remember correctly Schrade took over Imperial.

Thanks!

The lady told me if I could have it and an old icecream scoop (summer's coming!) for $6. I figured that was a fair trade. My very first knife that I received when I was 6 was an Imperial SAK. Still have it almost 25 years later.
As far as the grips, I think that you're right that they're plastic. I wasn't sure if they were plastic or bakalite.
I'm glad that it's carbon. As far as the edge, you're right. I've already had it out whittling!

I believe the fixed blade was called a sportsman, That may be just one particular brand kinda like people refer to all facial tissue as kleenex... dont remember. But everybody made a version…Utica, Camillus, Imperial, Colonial sometimes with an Axe combo sheath:D
I bought a nice unmarked one about 9 months ago, carbon steel, nice simple little knife:thumbup:
i'll search the old thread for ya

Wow, Great Information!

I never would have thought that this simple design was such a mainstay for so long!

I guess I'm going to have to keep my eyes peeled for more of them!

I really like that Imperial "field and stream" combo.

Thanks, guys!
