When i was little (8 or 9) I traded my great uncle a small case stockman for this ka-bar folder. I was wondering what you guys could tell me about it.
it's pretty big (around 9 inch overall) i was wondering about when it was made and If i should make it a user of if i should keep it put away. the tang has ka-bar 1183 U.S.A on it, so i guess 1183 is the model number? it has a liner lock, but it does not make contact with the tang.

Thanks for any info:)

BBM,

You have a KA-BAR Model 1183. Single Blade, folding hunter style. Fibron Rosewood handle scales, Linerlock; Understand that while Linerlocks were around long before Michael Walker, they were no where as good as his. This knife was produced in the 1970s.
If you play around with the liner, you may be able to get it to lock...or not. It looks like the knife still has a functioning back spring which should hold the blade.
Not much monetary value. But it still has keepsake value to you. Knives are tools so my advice (You may take it or leave it) is to use it. That is the best way to honor your Uncle, Family and the former KA-BAR workers.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! The back spring is very strong. I will have to start carrying it and using it:) I think it will make an excellent woods folder.

I have two of those. I bought them in a gun store in western Ma. years ago.
Mine lock.
This is the first I've seen them mentioned. Thanks

A little late getting the pics up but here they are with a little 1081
