Old Ka Bar, What Is It?

It is definitely a mutant, it was my grandfathers who died in the late 60's. I'm not looking to sell this, mostly just wondering if anyone knows roughly when it was made.

I think it started life as a trapper. Looks like celluloid covers and I'd say they have started to outgas (release nitric acid vapors). I would recommend not storing this knife with other knives or metal items. The nitric acid will attack them.
