A theater knife.

I only see one pic in that slideshow. Does it actually say Kabar on the knife and sheath? Looks like a knockoff to me but I'm no expert.

Has anyone seen a knife like this<iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://s347.photobucket.com/user/CRANEMANFIXIT/embed/slideshow/"></iframe>
Yes. Seen plenty.

They pop up all the time.

The knife is what is known as a 'theater made' knife. Either made during the War/a war by a soldier OR simply homemade where ever/stateside.

The leather washers of the handle was removed - either because they rotted or what ever - and the handle replaced with perspex/plexiglass/acrylic. What ever was handy.

Supposedly during WWII, soldiers used plane cockpit windows.

Make an internet search for 'theater made knife.'

Hope this helps.

No problem.

There are a plethora af these in various degrees of quality in regards to the handiwork displayed.

Sadly, many of these cant be dated, nor do we know who made them or where many were made due to time having passed.

Yours is interesting, as it was your grandfathers.
Do you know anything about his time in the service, if any?
