Well just picked up an old Kabar hunter off ebay. Never thought I would buy another knife off ebay but this was dirt cheap. Knife is carbon steel blade, 5.75" blade length, original sheath that looks like it has seen better days but still very functional, alum. butt and stacked leather handle with finger grooves. Looks like an old Marlbes knife actually. Has the original edge on it too. Least that is what the fella says and the pics from the auction show the blade to be nice and bright still with no pitting. Been looking for a knife like this or similar for a good long time and lucked into this one. keepem sharp

I got an old Kabar skinner cheaper than dirt last year, almost accidentally - I snagged an auction of four "used and not pretty" old skinners for a couple bucks, and lo and behold one was a barely used Kabar. No sheath, and a lot plainer than yours - just wood scales on a flat tang, Green River style - but a hell of a user. Still bright, but certainly not the original edge.

I've gotten a number of my fixed blade users that way. I'm willing to take a risk on a picture because compared to a folder there's not much that can go wrong and be unseen, and because except for style, fixed blades just haven't changed that much. I've grabbed solid knives with good steel, well tempered, and name brands for pennies on what a new one would cost.

And I often get to clean them up in the shop, which is actually a bonus for me, but maybe I'm just weird that way.:D

My dad past on to me his old kabar he used in the paratroopers and these knives last forever (as long as you have a good sharpener :( )
