I am down in Costa Rica and just sharpened up a couple of pocket knives for the maintenance guy. One is an old kershaw with 19031 of 30000 engraved on it. Any clue how old this would be and if it has any value. Said it was made in Japan. Forgot to get a pic of the number u see made in Japan.

The other was a beat up old auto.

Both are shaving sharp and dude is happy.

Any info?

Kershaw looks to be a Model 3140 Wildcat Ridge.

Can't ask about value at our membership level, (read the sticky at the top of the page).

I was curious if they have any value as the groundskeeper asked. He was more interested in approx age of the knife. I checked and then other side of the blade is stamped 3140 Japan. Does that add any info?

I just looked them up on eBay. Not worth much from a money point of view. Pretty sure it has sentimental value.

Aus6A. Never even heard of that steel. Claims to have unsurpassed edge retaining ability. It wasn't hard to sharpen, so I doubt it's in the same class as a super steel. Took a nice sharp edge though.

Well, Google up "Kershaw 3140 Wildcat Ridge" and you'll have a bunch of reading material.

If "Dude is Happy" then I'd say the value depends on him. :)

I did try the googles. Seems they are now made in China. Was trying to find when the knife began production.

He should be happy. That knife is now made in China. The Japanese knives were pretty good. AUS6 is a Japanese steel similar to 425M.
