Old khukuris?

All this recent talk about tomahawks got me thinking. I know that a century ago good steel was precious stuff. As a result, tomahawks were made mostly of iron, with a steel edge forged onto the rest of the head. If you guys are wondering where I'm going with this, my question is this. What were some of the old khukuris made of? Were they made completely out of iron, or were produced in a way similar to old tomahawks?

I think some of them might have been made using a combo of iron and steel but I am not absolutely sure.
