I am curious to find out anything about this knife. If anyone knows?
It is 17" long, very rusted and found in a hilly paddock in the Central Tablelands region of NSW Australia.

Welcome to Bladeforums grobliro.

Man, you sure have a lot of faith in the membership here if you think we could positively identify that thing, or tell you anything reliable about it :) .

I don't think it's possible to do either. I think "mystery item" will remain a mystery.

But if anyone can positively identify it, I'd be impressed.

Just realized it’s 17” long! More than half is handle, so a 10” handle and 7” blade? Very odd proportions.

2 choices save it as is for a conversation piece. Or clean it good and see how it holds an edge.

Those proportions make me think it was intended for 2 hand use. So that would imply using on a stationary object like a log. Some type of a carpentry tool? Or as stated previously agricultural?

Maybe not hand held at all. The very straight uniform “handle” may slide into a tool holder and get clamped in at different depths.

My guess is SOD CUTTER. Mounted into a tool holder pointed straight down then dragged by either a beast of burden or walk behind tractor.

There don't seem to be any features that would allow handle slabs to be attached to the presumed tang, which is odd for any knife. One more thing that points to a tool rather than a knife.

Also, if it is a knife, 17 cm would sound more realistic than 17", looking at the proportions. Don't you use the metric system down under? Can you include some well-known object or a ruler in a pic?
