My grandpa gave me a knife the other day that was his dad’s knife. My grandpa just turned 90 so I’m guessing the knife is 60 years old or more. The knife is a locking folding pocket knife with a long clip blade style, with a bone handle. When open the total length of the knife is 8 inches. On the blade the letters WIL can be made out as well as Cutlery Chicago. The rest of the word beginning with WIL has been rubbed off due to the rubbing of the blade while opening and closing. I believe it’s WIL or it could be WIE?

Any answers or other places to look for info will be appreciated.

Wilbert Cutlery Co. Chicago.....Wilbert was an early "house brand" of Sears, Roebuck, and Company....very high quality knives, made on contract by Napanoch Knife Company. I believe that the Wilbert brand was only used for a short period, circa 1890's thru WWI......it is possible that it lasted into the 20's, though.

Wilbert knives are generally highly regarded by collectors, it alos sounds like you have a desireable pattern, although condition ultimately dictates value.
