Hey everybody,

I'm sure it's happened to all of us....you get that shiny new knife (unless it's coated then it's an unscathed new knife :)) and almost immediately fall in love with it and it takes over as King of the EDC rotation until you get the knife bug and the cycle starts all over :D

But, there are those times where you look down at your new knife and realize it wasn't as good of a value (put to use wise) as that good ole' trusty EDC that is sitting in that drawer at home collecting dust.

Well, it happened today. Here I am patroling and I just want to flip my knife open and closed to pass the time as I'm looking around. I grab my 790 Subrosa - it works "OK" but doesn't feel right in the hand. So I reach into my duty bag and rumage around and find ole' faithful - my discontinued 550 Griptilian with a flatground 440C blade and oval thumb opener. It has that old familiar feeling, the ergonomics perfect, no hotspot from the pocket clip, still has that original mirror finish on top with satin finish on the bottom portion of the blade, and the thumb ramp is perfectly in sync with the handle - no uneven drop off from the handle to the blade. I flip it opened and closed about a dozen times and feel peace of mind :p

Needless to say it's replacing the Subrosa for a little while :D

So has this happened to you? Out with the new and in with the old? Discuss, which knife, why you may prefer it over newer models or just over knives that are new to you.

Of course, all the time. The most recent example is my SOG Mini-Vulcan, I bought it couple weeks ago at a brick and mortor store, it felt perfect in hand and is such a high quality knife with a razor sharp VG-10 blade, I had to have it.
I ordered a low rider bayonet style clip for it from SOG and have yet to even put it in my pocket.I have a feeling it is going up in the trade section for a Spyderco. Crazy, it would much cheaper if I could just be content with what I have.

LOL, I wouldn't have even found BladeForums if I had been content with my boy scout SAK many many years ago :D

Now there's too many knives and not enough pockets to carry them (even with my duty belt) :o

Put a 'convex' edge on my Cyclone again recently, and it's recently pushed my manix-2 out of my pocket for work carry. My cyclone is the first knife I ever bought for myself, and my manix 2 is the most recent knife I've bought. Both extremes of my descent into addiction. :D

I have the BM550SBK - it's a great knife, and I love the blade geometry. But no matter what I have, and how much I love it, I'm always on the lookout for the next addition to the collection. E.g., I have a Rift incoming, and I'm curious to compare it to my 550.
