Could anyone tell me anything about this knife, it say's
camillus
N.Y
1-1883
on the end of the handle (pomel) it is a leather stacked handle 5" blade 9 3/4
long. It looks military. Was it made in 1883? Where can I find details about this knife.

Thanks
Terry

Terry,
The knife that you described is a Pilot's Survival knife (Model #5733). The stamping on the pommel "1-1883" is most likely "1-1983" which would be the date of manufacture-January, 1983. Camillus started date stamping this model in 1967. This knife is shown on the Camillus website at www.Camillusknives.com.

Interesting, mine isn't dated.

The tang stamp reads:

CAMILLUS
NEW YORK
USA

Is this a newer knife? I'm very positive that it's not older than 1967.
