I have been a collector and student of Japanese swords for years now. One of the key criteria in assessing a good blade when its in poor shape is its ability to be restored to fighting condition. Japanese swords unlike other collectable militaria are routinely "refurbished" by skilled artisans to what essentially is like new condition, or as close as they can be. The process is very expensive but the result is amazing.

Years ago I found an old Marbles Fieldcraft knife is pretty good shape but it was stained and scratched and generally neglected. I had an ABS Journeyman smith clean it up and make it look like it did when basically new. It looks fantastic and the smith didnt have to change the lines or replace any handle material etc. Im sure this is a big no-no to some of you collectors out there but I dont have a problem with it. Anyone else have any feelings on this subject?

Thanks

Dave
