I found this Knife at a yard sale. It measures 11.5" overall and has a 7.25" blade. It has a bone handle with iron pins. There is a leather washer (shrunken) between the handle and guard. The guard is made of brass and is 2.25" wide. There is no stampings on the blade. Of course corrosion could have obscured any. There is a H scratched on the handle along with another letter (maybe a R) I can't quite make out.
The documentation with the knife says it was found in Ohio on a old Indian Trail in 1869 and is described as a "hunter's Knife".
I found info on the person who found the knife and he was living in the area in the same time frame and he was a surgeon. I only gave $25 for the knife and a military Woodsman Pal & sheath so I don't think the documentation was made up.
Any info would be appreciated. I am keeping it in my knife display case and I won't be selling it.
