Hi Guys,

New member here and I've always been into knives. Most of mine have been gifts over the years (Swiss Army knife to name one). My daily driver is a Benchmade Mini Griptilian which I really like. I'm here today because I finally thought about getting some advice on some old knives I had sitting around. Most of which I acquired when my grandfather died in the early 90s (he was a farmer). The first link below includes his old knives but also some cheap Chinese and Pakistan built knives I got as a kid shopping at various flea markets. The second link are the knives I got from him.

I checked the makers of the knives by checking the bottom of the blades and discovered the following:

Hopalong Cassidy - Imperial
Queen Elizabeth II 1953 Coronation - Richards Sheffield
Fish Knife - Colonial
Dual folder textured scale - Colonial
Dual folder with shield emblem - Schrade
Quad folder with ring - Camilus
Two single folders - Schrade
Barlow Black - Kutmaster
Barlow White - Colonial

My main question is, besides sentimental value placed on these old vintage knives, what if any value may they have to a collector? They're all in pretty bad shape - most aren't sharp and have developed a patina, some are broken and all haven't been maintained or cleaned in decades or ever. I like the idea of having heirlooms to pass down to my three boys as they get older but I doubt any of these pieces are worth it and if I can sell them on and use the funds to defray the cost of purchasing a newer knife, I'd prefer that. Thanks in advance!

Thank you. I suppose this will get locked. I will look elsewhere for assistance. Thanks again!

FWIW, seeking an "appraisal" from a knife "expert" will cost you a lot more than just paying for a Gold Membership on BF, which only costs $35, and good luck finding past sales on EB or other 2ndary sites for the knives in your collection.

That said, given the poor condition of your knives, I'd say that they are ONLY worth their sentimental value to you and I wouldn't worry about their actual sale or collector value (if any).

Personally, I've got a couple of traditionals that I "inherited" from my father that are only worth the memories that they bring back to mind and in that sense they are priceless but I doubt I'll have any luck conveying that value to my son or grandson who will probably just toss them in the trash when I'm gone.

Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

In addition to the comments above, the value of any knife is relative to the buyer. I invite you to stick around and visit the Knife Exchange and see what things sell for. Maybe consider a basic membership.

If I were you I would consider putting them on display with a photo of your grandad. The things have minimal market value, but once they are gone they can never be replaced.
