old kukri -- nice lines

Khukuri's like that only need a photo to speak on thier own. Thank you for posting it.

Runjeet the propierter of Akaal arms & myself stuided both of these over some time, It is certanly a lovely kukri & clearly a copy of the Sirmoor Nahan 1880 kukri I obtained from JP a couple of years ago.

But If I didnt already have the original or if i was rich I would have tried for that piece for sure.

Its fascinating that a Londan made kuki was then copied in India, the opposite of the usual way! Although the blade design was no doubt copied & refined from an old Indian or Nepali blade anyway.

More possibilities of its history have recently come to light thanks to a leading British Arms & armour historian but further research is neccasary.

Runjeet does find some lovely kukris as well as many other high end Indo Persian knives & swords on occasion.

Heres the original Sirmoor Nahan kukri.. It is the highest quality workmanship I have yet seen on any knife or sword.

Now THAT is what I have been thinking about.
With about 2 more degres of downward angle on the handle and a slightly upswept point, it would be the exact image that has been haunting my thoughts for the last several years. I think Burra could make it 17-18" in length and keep the blade the same thickness as a 17" FF.

That photo is very inspiring to me, thanks for posting. Art, beauty, function, history in one piece.

Glad you like it guys. The old London Gunsmiths & cutlers were amongst the best in the world at that time.

Its actualy even more refined in the hand than in the photos.

I veiw it like a magnificent hand cut jewel in steel.

Please send it to BirGhorka for a week or two..

;) :D

Well Its true I think Danny that giving the kami original kukri to handle , pull apart & examine is the only way too get old kukri accuratly copied, photos, blueprints, drawings & templates just arnt the same to them as the living steel.

But when I first bought it It vanished for over a week despite bieng tracked, somewhere between JFK & Heathrow airports { somewhere over the Atlantic apparently} , when JP posted it to me & I realy wasnt a happy bunny that week!

Sadley Posting it to Nepal & back, would be rather high risk. its worth decades of wages for a poor man in Nepal.

But Perhaps in futre there could be a Fund set up to buy & send them beutifull old kukri to be copied? With the awarness & acceptance that they may get lost or damaged.
