My nephew acquired an old chest full of hand tools that appear to date back about 50-60 years ago. In there were two machetes, and he didn't have use for them!? So he just gave them to me:) The two machetes looked unused, but had some surface rust that I cleaned up on the grinder with a couple passes on a 120 grit

They are both stamped MARTINDALE Birmingham Made in England with a logo of an alligator and with serial number No 702

Overall length of 26 inches. Blade length 20 inches with three grooves running down the blade and the blade is taper ground all the way through the handle. It has that classic machete shape with the wider tip, and the grip is good.

I sharpened it up and it is a joy to use. It has excellent ballance and I can see this being very useful for work in the boreal forest with its heavy underbrush.

Anybody know how old these are?
