Old Mans Rope~ Is that what you get when you make cordage from Old Mans Beard ?

I was just messing around today and found that Old mans beard could me made into a rough form of cordage.
I wouldn't abseil Bear Grylls style down anything on this stuff but I think it would suffice for lashing a shelter together.
When I have more time I'll spend a bit longer making a neater, longer section and see just how strong it is.

Interesting idea Pit,looking forward to the strength test.
There sure is a ready supply of Old Mans beard all over.
We called it Spanish moss out in N.C. when I was stationed there.

Good stuff Pit. Its surprising what can be made into some workable string when you think about it!

I'd question the strength for anything more than decorative work, I played with that stuff a lot when I was a kid, it can take an ember very well, bit breaks up pretty easily too.

Use it for insulation in clothes, pot holders, scrub brushes for dishes or other tasks if not as true cordage, looks nice and thick and could hold heat fairly well.

i kinda wish we had that around here, but well...

have to suffice with chipmunks :>

Great experiment and I'll look forward to seeing part 2.

It has made me think about collecting all those little tufts of 'wool' you see when hiking on the moors.
I could probably weave a jumper after some trips.
