Today a friend asked me to sharpen for him his old Marbles hunting knife. I know next to nothing about the old Marbles knives and am hoping someone can tell me something about this one, maybe even including what steel it likely has.

Thanks for any help.

Andrew

Thanks, Ed. 1095 is a nice easy steel to sharpen unless the blade stock is as thick as this one! It's giving me a good workout and I'm not done yet.

The edge of those Ideals gets pretty thick fast as it makes its way up to the bottom of the fuller. When one gets worn down as far as your friends, it will take some effort to thin it out.

But it is well worth the effort, they are fine knives,

His looks like it may have seen a grinding wheel at some point

LV, yours is a beauty. What is that pretty wood in the scales?
