Old Marbles w/out Butt

Hi everyone,

I received a knife that I'm hoping to restore, it's an old Marbles Gladstone hunting knife. It's missing the butt portion of the knife, and has no cap on it.

Is there a place to find cheap replacement parts?

I'm also considering just building a new handle for it. I'm a beginner, any advice on tackling it with this particular knife would be appreciated. The tutorials I've seen all seem to be for a different styled handle than the Marbles, where the blank is visible in the finished product. Would making a handle be different for this particular knife?

Thanks!

You won't be able to find a new replacement butt cap, most people buy broken or very worn bladed knives, and pull them apart for extra parts. If you feel confident you could try making an antler buttcap or hardwood (lignum vitae works well, and is historical).

For builds, search stuff like "making a hidden tang knife", "stacked leather handle build", "making a stacked leather handle", etc.... That will bring up what you need.

Thanks! This is exactly the information I needed.

I may try to make a new handle. There is only about 1/4" of the blank sticking out past the last piece of leather on the handle. I don't know how I'd be able to get a new buttcap reliably secured to that.
