Hi, I was just finishing this one when I ran into a small design dilemma. I planned on filing the damascus side spacer but I thought I would etch it first, now I can't decide if I should leave it alone or file it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

If you filed it I would say "That looks perfect!" If you left it alone, I would also say "That looks perfect!" So, it's a weeener either way. :D

Excellent. I wish I had those dilemas...

Thanks you guys! Here's another picture that might show the knife better. Learning to take good photos is almost as hard as learning to make a good knife.

Leave it. That damascus bolster speaks volumes on it's own merit and doesn't really need further embellishment, IMO.

About the knife itself, let me just say this:
  :D

With your help I've decided to leave it alone, thanks. I really enjoyed making this one and I love this wood, it has the same chatoyant effect as ironwood, kind of 3d, machines and finishes great.
Problem is I can't remember the species, I think it's Afzelia but I can't seem to find anything like it on the internet.
Thanks again, Dave

WOW! Could this knife possibly get any better?

If you remember what wood type it is, please post it.
I'd like to look into getting some.

Chatoyance in wood is an effect I'm very enamored with and this species you've used is obviously a great candidate for handles.

Thanks for sharing!

I realy like this knife as it is. Filework on the spacer wouldn't detract from it, but I don't think you need either

After a little research on the net I think the proper name is Afzelia Xylocarpa
A.K.A. Afzelia: Xylay, Lay,or Ley

how about some specs?
3.25" etched O1 blade

Carbon raindrop pattern damascus bolsters w/ black Micarta and twist damascus spacers

Afzelia Xylay scales

7.50" o.a.l.

Thanks again, Dave

Do you mind if I drool on your picture...
I have drooled over many pictures of different makers knives but I never thought about anyone drooling over one of mine, what a great compliment...Thank You! If there was an inflated head smiley I would insert it here :D
Actually, out of the 20 knives that I've made, this is one of my favorites.
