Figured I would share this.
I got this as a gift from my grandfather about 5 years ago. Completely unaware of what it was, often calling it a "cerimonial dagger"
However now being a member of the cantina and victim of HIKV has pretty much set me straight.
sheath is pretty much degraded, belt loop is decomosed and a 2 inch rip on side of the sheath also.
karda(about 1.5") lost in my room someplace and the chakma is long forgoten.
The blade still stands anyhow.
There's a polished (?) patern on one side with what looks to be a poppy flower with "India" written among the vines.

Enjoy the pics.

(first attempt at html posting so let's see if luck is with me)
edit: html posting is new to me thus a failiure, enjoy a link instead.
edit: the girl in pics is my girlfriend Holly.

Well, Bruce, 'ceremonial' just about sums it up. Looks like there's a lion's head on the pommel. Others know more about this than I do, but it looks like you don't have to worry too much about the lost chakma and karda.

Your pictures turned out real nice.

Is that you holding the khuk?

Good eye mate, yes that is a figure head on the pommel.
I'm hard pressed to say its a lion for certain, maybe a bear. I don't think they have too many grizzlies in India tho :)

That's actualy my Girlfriend holding the khuk, I think I will load a pic of her for no real reason.

Pics of good-looking ladies are always appreciated. Glad it was her. Was going to suggest that you rethink your handle ('Bruce'), had it been you.

What khukuri? Sorry, got distracted by the pretty girl. :) Typical tourist piece. Great for display, not for use. We've all had one. Your's is special because it was a gift from your grandfather. Enjoy it for that reason.

To post the pics, just copy the bottom line below your picture that has IMG in it, and paste it into your post. Nothing else needed.

Yep. tourist piece. But hey, gotta start somewhere. And if you ever get the hankering to do some work on one of your H.I. khukuris, you can always practice on this one first. ;)

even if it is a tourist peice, thats a nice contrast between the blade colors. bueatiful, both of them :)

is that you in the photo?
