A while ago I had some friends over helping me with painting the house and other overdue chores.
One of them had this knife laying in his tool box.
When I asked him about it he said it belonged to his father in law and that he never uses it.
I could have it if I wanted. So....

As you can see it's in very bad shape:

Blade almost grinded away on a grinder and I had to use the screwdriver of my Pioneer to open the rest of the rusted shut tools

When you hold the knife against the light at a right angle you can faintly see "63" so it must be a 1963 manufactured or issued knife.

I think the scales are from some kind of wood.

Don't know what I will do with it.
I have no tools or talent to re scale it.
Maybe I'll try to de rust the knife, make it kinda working again and put it in the display with the rest of the traditionals.

Just wanted to share it with you all.

Thanks for watching

Maybe you could use rust converter on the metal and wood hardener on the scales. Figure out some easy way to get it useable and put in in a glovebox, toolbox, somewhere where a knife would be handy.

Not much monetary value left in that old soldier. It would be nice if it had value working somewhere at something in it's old age.

I'd stick it in ziplock with some mineral oil for a while...like a week or two, then re-evaluate. I sit them on the window sill so it gets some gentle heat too.

I agree that this would be a good place to start.

Me too. Also, if you want to email me, I can explain how to derust with a small car battery charger and a tub of water. I have a big tank I use for stuff and it work FANTASTICALLY!

I bet there are lots of people on Blade forums that would love to learn how to do that. I would.

worst case scenario-you have a very classy bottle opener.
