I'm going to OOB with my wife's family; they go every year but I haven't gone since my son was pretty young. He is in college now so vacation won't just be sitting on the beach making sure he doesn't drown.

We will probably be going to LL Bean for a day and to Portland for a nice meal or two.

Is there anything else around that I should not miss in that area?

Do use care at the beach--the riptides are bad this year and someone has already died.

Beans is a good way to kill a couple of hours--2:00 AM or so is the best time to go during the summer, less tourists (no offense ;-)

Not sure when you'll be up, but the ABS Hammer-in in Auburn is next week--I believe the free knife show portion of it is Saturday 1-4 PM. Auburn is a pretty quick zip up '95 from Portland. Here is the link, if you're interested: http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/index.php?/topic/26-new-england-hammer-in/

Anyway, have fun and drive safe!

No offense taken. I'm on vacation so I relax and go with the flow. Unfortunately, I'll miss the hammer-in by a week.

I recommend checking out the Freeport knife Company since you're going to be in Freeport anyway (for Beans). They're just down the road. Also, the Kittery Trading Post is a hard one to pass up.
