I have an old pilots survival knife, supposedly carried by my uncle in Vietnam. Blade is 5" stamped CAMILLUS NY on the blade. I've searched and read that they were switched from 6" to 5" blades, and in the early 70s the stampings were moved to the butt of the knife. There are no markings on the butt, only on the blade. Any help identifying or more info would be appreciated. I found out at my uncle's funeral that he was part of a communications division and served 2 tours in Vietnam, and some of the missions he carried out are still classified to this day.

If there's one site anyone should visit to learn about US military knives,

The blade on the Pilot Survival knife was shortened to 5 inches in 1962. The stampings were moved from the blade to the butt or pommel in 1967 and the date of manufacture was added.

This was one of the most popular knives of the Vietnam war. I carried one myself, and most of us that packed these things were certainly not pilots. It was a good, dependable, easy to keep sharp knife. Big enough to be useful, small enough not to bog you down. I got mine in a trade with a chopper pilot.

Here is the six and five inch versions. Keep your eye open for one of the original Marbles (6" blade-- they were the first manufacturer of these); worth big bucks. The middle knife is one I had rehandled and hilted for my own use. I smoothed out the saw teeth to be easier on my thumb as I worked with the knife. It is kept sharp enough to shave with, including the top clip edge.

I found a Camillus pilot's knife that has, "Camillus Cut Co., Camillus NY" on the blade. Any idea how old this one is?
Thanks.

Thanks for all of the replies. Mine has a 5" blade with stamping on the blade, so I'm guessing it's from between '62 - '67

I've got the same thing BH, but mine has no sheath. I did see an original marbles on ebay last night.
