What is the deal with people wanting premiums for older pivot Zaans? I’ve been casually looking for one and come across 2 so far, both sellers wanted new and well over new money for them and both knives were carried and used. When did these become collector status lol?

I’ve had 3 of them in the past and never got more than $360 for any of them. I guess there is a demand I wasn’t aware of for them?

There are certainly going to be people that prefer one or the other, but supply and demand also playa part. Plus people always seem to want what they can't get/

There is not a "regular" Umnumzaan. You have the old pivot design and the new pivot design. There have also been little tweaks to the overall design over the years (jimping width, lbs, etc.). Hope this helps.

The current production model has the "new pivot."

The old pivot design is out of production, which immediately makes it collectible and thus, the price starts climbing.

It seems that I lucked into mine just before their popularity really took off. I think I paid $325 & $350 around a year and a half to two years ago. I’m glad I did because I wouldn’t pay the current rates, though they are some of my favorite CRKs. It’s just a great looking knife due to that pivot in my opinion.
