Hi folks...I have put this knife in the Traditional forum..here is the link...

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8406525&posted=1#post8406525

Mods..please forgive me if quoting another forum is not a good thing to do-let me know and I will rectify it. :o

If you see at the bottom of the link ..in the thread I have been advised to ask you guys here what to do with this knife, so far I have been able to give the knife a new lease of life..the snap that has come back is simply great...but this great old knife has two issues...could you please help me out?...I would greatly appreciate it.

The knife has slight side play in both blades..enough to make you wish it wasnt there-but not enough for you to be dissapointed in the knife ( I hope this makes sense to you ).
There has been a suggestion of placing the bolster in a padded vice to GENTLY squeeze...please...what do you think?..I can see the theory behind this-but because I have never done this-the thought is sort-a terrifying :(

Also...the now remaining staining on the blades..I am most happy with the colour-would you guys do anything at all more to the blades...I entertained the idea of using only 0000 steel wool-as its so extremely fine it will not polish at all, AND wont take away the steels colouring...
Thank you very much for your time in replying, and i look forward to your help.

You can squeeze it but be careful, even the slightest pressure can have a effect and if you go to far there is no going back without professional repair.

Never dull or a polish compound would bring the blades back to like new but if it has a nice patina I would leave it.

Thank you for your advice knifenut...I went out to the garage...and tried a few times...no different- ....
the next time I applied a bit more pressure and held it there for a while-before releasing pressure I gave it a ittle "tweek" then released..I lost all snap...the blades went quite slack on it :(..and yet all side play was gone...
I can tell you I wasnt happy-only blaming myself for gving it that tweek..I am a very carefull sort of person and was very carefull at what I was doing...but as you know...I dont have any idea about spring tolerances etc...

Anyway...after a panicky 5 mins or so with wd40 and frantic movement..it got better and better...I now have full snap back in every stop apart from a slight laziness in the main blade when coming back into the liner :o...and that only does it...say ...40% of the time now...so a fantastic result-with a close call...and the main blade is getting better and better with more working away and Mineral oil
Thank you knifenut for you advice...it certainly have made this knife so much better now-thank you
