I know I saw (no more than a couple of months ago) a thread by a guy who wanted to make homemade handle material. He talked about using his wifes food processer (bad move) to shred paper and such into epoxy or something. He had good responses but, try as I may, I cannot find the thread in the archives. HELP!!! MY WIFE WANTS TO TRY MAKING THIS STUFF FOR ME!!! I CANNOT PASS THIS UP!!! I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Also, we just put a web site up:D (I make the knives she makes the sheaths[she has also started making sheaths for other knifemakers, too]). Any suggestions or opinions?

By the way the web address is - www.mountainhollow.net

Hey Guys just read this post.J. Neilson I sent you an e-mail. You can usually get the casting resin at some craft stores its kind of pricey for what you get I paid $17 a quart. You can make it without the vacuum chamber but you will just have some voids that fill easily with the zap-a-gap super glue. The main trick seems to be heating up the resin before you mix in the rags, paper etc.that helps it really penetrate. You can also bake it in the oven at 140 degrees but make sure that your pan doesnt warp from the heat and ruin your batch. I know its common knowledge but wear a respirator when you gring this stuff. It really hangs in the air.
I sent my number to you so give a call or mail me.

I love this place, the free exchange of knowledge is priceless

Gouge,
Do you have any pictures of your handle material? I'd like to see it and I'm sure other makers would to.

Never mind Mark, I went to your web site like I should have done in the first place. That's some interesting looking stuff, might have to try that some day.
