here so if this doesn't belong in this forum please let me know where to take it. Thank you.

Question: If I order an automatic knife shipped to my home state of Maine, where autos are illegal, are they usually confiscated before they get to my home?

I will be moving to Florida in the near future (a year or two) and they are completely legal there so I can always have a knife order sent to relatives down there. But I am curious as to how diligent, or how they detect them when shipped from the various websites.

I'm not sure this can be answered here, but feel it shouldn't hurt to ask. If it offends anyone I apologize as that is not the intention.

I am in my 50's and have collected knives for many years. Nothing special, just a hobby. Yet I have always had a desire for a good automatic, but never lived where they were legal. One I could use around the house and property.

Any information is appreciated.

Do I wait for the move south or is it okay to buy online? Again...thank you.

With most sellers, they won't sell to you if your address is in a state or jurisdiction where autos are illegal; the other problem - that I've run into with double-edged knives - is that they won't ship to any address other than your billing address on your credit card. So if your billing address is in Maine, they won't ship to Florida. According to SMKW, they do this so you don't have an illegal item shipped to, say, dad in Florida, then he turns it around and ships it to you in Maine.

Kinda silly, but oh well, that's the laws these days.

thx - cpr

You will get more and better answers if you ask on the KNIFE LAWS Forum:

Also, you can use Google advanced search to search an individual website, such as BF. Highly recommended as it is more powerful for many searches than the native search function.
