Could anyone give me info on this knife. I know it's old. However, I don't know much about it. I just aquired it and wanting some info. It has the marking on the blade - Schrade Walden

It had a red handle, and it's a lockable swichblade. Any info would be appriciated. Thanks.

What is the model is it a single blade hunter type or is it a double. What is the size closed. Is this picture your knife? Once I can determine your knife I will tell you anything you want to know. LT

it looks a lot like the picture however, it doesn't have the metal between the blade and the handle but everything else looks right....the size closed is about 4 1/4 inches open, it's 7" and there's a hole in the thick part of the blade near the top (the non-sharpened area) Could that of been where the shield was? Or did they make swichblades without the shield? Thank you for your help.

lem427,

Belated welcome to the Schrade forum.

From your description, it does sound like the guard is missing from your knife. Is the hole about the size of the pin (holding on the swivel type guard) that you can see in lt632ret's picture? If so, that would make sense. If not,...

I'm sure LT will be checking back....so just hang in there.... ;)

That is the same knife and the floating crossguard is missing. (A shield on a knife is the little metal piece on the handle which may be inscribed). That knife was only made with the floating guard. It is a small version of the larger Hunters Pride which was produced under both Schrade Walden and Schrade Cutlery co. However it is the only small version which was produced having the floating guard. This knife originated as a design offered to the US military after WW II and just around or before Korea. The military was looking for a small automatic knife to be used for survival kits and expressly for para forces. This design was rejected ( in fact its only military designation is that it was offered to the military ). It in fact was not used by the military. It was however originally designed to be a military knife. Recently one on ebay sold at an outragous price because it had a military etch. The etch was a forgery they did not come with a military etch. At this point the military adopted the orange handled automatic clip blade with manual shroud cutter. By the way this knife was offered to the military with the automatic shroud cutter but they chose the manual version. So now that the military had made there choice that left the floating crossguard version on the table so to speak and since it is a really a nice design. The Baer brothers who owned Schrade and had a very close releationship with Sears. Sold the design to them and produced your knife for them in both the new small version and larger Hunters pride version both with those red handles that they had tried to sell to the military. These knives did carry an electro etch however it was a Craftsman logo. Now these knives are desirable. Apparently one with a fake etch is worth over 500 dollars. Actually one in original mint condition is worth around 500. The missing floating guard is one of the most common maladys in these knives and unless you know someone to hand make one, vitually impossible to locate installation is simple as you may imagine. If nothing else is wrong with the knife it works right, blade is pristene, ect the knife is worth 100+. If anything else is wrong with it or the blade is down or whatever it goes down from there. Really a nice old knife I just picked up another one a couple of weeks ago really nice just one problem ( Yup it needs a crossguard ). Let me know if you need more info if so I will prattle on some more. LT

Thank you for all the great information!!!! I guess my $15.00 is sure to pay off! thanks again
