Old Remingtons in Rosewood

I thought about dropping this over in Levine's forum, but with the abundance of knowledge (albeit some useless knowledge...jk) resting with my folksy folks, I wanted to post here instead.

I've often wondered about the old Remingtons that were made with Rosewood scales. A look through Levine's 4th has the Cotton Sampler in wood, but only has the Sleeveboard in bone with a shield. Does anyone know whether the rosewood knives were just lower-end options, as most that I have seen also lack a shield.

The Sampler is mine and I am thinking about buying the Sleeveboard, but would like a little background on the handles.

The knife appears to be a Remington model 662 or 668 (shown in Stewart and Ritchie on page 64 of my edition) If it's a 662 the handles are actually black composition, if a 668 then they're cocobolo.

In my experience, Remington is the most likely of all the knife brands to have the pattern number stamped on it, and therefore I would advise you to simply check for it.
