Was waiting on some glue to dry on a project, had some time to kill so I put this rustic looking sticker together. The pics suck, so i'll get better ones when the batteries are done charging.

The blade is an old 1800's carving knife with integral bolster that I reshaped, beveled and profiled. Looks nothing like it did when I started (that's usually the case with my projects). The handle is deer jawbone. No fine finishes, rustic was my goal.

Looks like it could bite on both ends! :D

Definitely a winner on the rustic front! I'm guessing you had fun on that project?

yeah, it was fun. I have another waiting to be put together. Is going to be a while though, still trying to make a few decisions, and not much time to work on it anyway. It is a larger clip point blade (not recurved) thats getting a deer leg bone handle with the knuckle joint left on.

A fun knife. For the past couple of years I've been remaking old carbon butcher and carving knives, mainly friction folders. It's a great way to practice some of the skills involved in "from scratch" knifemaking.

thanks guys, a few more in the works.

Basically my reproduction of the original nessmuk carried by GW Sears. Another carving blade I reground that is getting a knuckle joint handle and an apache style shear knife with deer legbone.

the only one even close to finished is the shear knife, I still have to make a few small changes and attach the handle

Heheh, as one fellow once said when starting out on a new project. "I looked around and realized I didn't have enough unfinished projects, so I started on this one." :D

I think we all can relate to that one.

Nice! Looks like the blade was made for the jawbone.

I made one similar to that with an old Henkels steak knife that had a cracked horn handle. I had it finished laying on my bench and my dog snatched it and chewed the jawbone. She did get some minor cuts out of the deal though.
