This knife was my great grandfathers that was obtained from Norway. I have looked for a few days on the web for some similar Helle knives but can not seem to find any. I am wondering if any of you guys know more about these old bone handled beauties?

Izan, I have the same knife, and wrote to Sven Helle about it. He could not tell me when it was made, as the pattern was produced for many years, if I remember right up to the 60's. Nice that you have your Grandfather's knife.

Izan, I found the letter from Svein Helle about my Fjellkniven (same as yours) and he said "The Fjellkniven was made in an almost unatered shape from 1935 until 1992". Since it was your grandfather's it may be one of the older ones.

Helle still make similar patterns of knives in various handle materials including the Fjelkniven with a birch handle. Helle has also begun to offer some less traditional knives as well. I bought one of the Helle Fire knives from Ragnor and have been very pleased with it. It combines old and new school in a very handsome package. It is one of the new full tang knives Helle is offering now.

Does the stamping "Norge" as opposed to "Norway" (on modern Helle) help
date the Norge marking? If so, what period?

Thanks
Rich

I have no idea man. Like I was saying I can not find another picture or description of this knife on the web. There are older knives with somewhat similar blade shapes, but the stamping and the handles are different, along with the sheaths.

It does say, "HJLMEDAL" under the S&S stamp. That is not turning up anything either.

Thanks Rich, that is awesome stuff there.

The knife, 6th from the right looks about a match. The sheaths binding material might be different, and the handle looks a little lighter in color, but other than that I bet it is the same model. If you had the time, some single pictures of that knife would be great.

I am wondering what sort of value does this knife I have hold. I am not planning on selling it, just using it around the yard and what not. But if it is super rare and such, I might just tuck her away.

Don't have any single pics of it, sorry. I find these sell for around $40-70 on ebay
in good condition, although I did pay $100 for a Helle done up in a carved antler
handle and antler sheath - not a factory piece - folk art/craft.
