I picked up 2 28" round saw blades from a scrap yard today, they were a bargin at $10 each. I think that they are old lumber mill blades, no carbide tips and they are about 1/8th of an inch thick. Any guess on the type of steel?? I hope that they will be good for small blades.. Can anyone tell me how to heat treat this steel..

" Mystery steel " cut off a piece and heat treat it and see if it's suitable !

Wayne Goddard gave me several pieces of old saw steel a few years back. I asked him if they were L-6 or 15N20. He said they were saw steel. I asked him the samething again and I got the same answer. I'd start out with a 375 temper cycle but most likly you'll need to go with 400 to 425. Old saw steel is one of my favorite steels.
