I recently acquired an Old School Basic that has me a bit perplexed. On paper it would appear to be a Basic 4, but I did not think Busse made an old School Basic 4, and I can't find reference to one.

It has the factory Asymmetrical edge and shows no signs of modifications. Of course searching anywhere for Basic 4 returns loads of the newer LE's. I did find one link to an "Old school Basic 4" but it's in a different language.

Here's a picture, 311 on bottom, Basic 5 on top. Blade measures approximately 4.75" tip to grip with a 4" cutting edge.

Thoughts?

I think that's a European Basic 4. Busse marketed a Basic line through a distributor I believe in Germany about the same time as Basics were sold here, with slightly different blade lengths and profiles.

Member Ragnerok (Scandinavia) has posted pics--here's one which I think shows his EB4 at center:

Yep, That is a German Basic 4
Very cool.

Nice grab!

There are a few euro versions I'd like to get my hands on. That is one of them.

Thanks Guy. I've enjoyed being around for the last few, especially catching up with old friends. Will be out of internet range off and on through most of the summer but checking in when I can.:cool:

Thanks Will and everyone else :)

This was a pleasant find. I remembered hearing about some Euro models but didn't know sizes or expect to stumble onto one on Flea Bay. I have a few stragglers sitting around that I am planning to sheath up and sell, this may be in there with them, we'll see ;)
