I'd done this a few years ago once, but used a used battery.

This time a brand new Duracell AA Alkaline.

Nothin fancy, no pics.

Put a brand new battery in, and lit it up at 630pm on a Friday night. Set it in a conspicuous place.

Sat 6:30pm, still goin strong.

Sun 6:30pm still goin, close to as strong, but maybe somewhat dimmer.

Mon 6:30pm still goin, a good bit dimmer, but still could read with it. Would not want to try to navigate.

Mon 10:30 pm, same as 6:30pm

Tues 9:00am, same as before.

Sometime between 9AM and 4PM it died.

Well over 72 hours with a simple OTS alkaline.

Next weekend I'll stick a lithium in it.

Yeh, I know, not available, so why bring attention to a dead horse. Dunno, just somethin to do.

I originally looked to these as "comfort" lights for nephews in Scouts, in case they got lost, would be a couple nights worth of light.

Looks like it would have no problem handling that.

I have an original CMG 'low power' white one and one of the countycomm USG 'ultra' lights. Enough light for close up chores and reading and 40+ hrs of runtime. An excellent 'vampire' light for draining those otherwise unusable AA batteries. AFAIC, it's the best of the early LED lights. Too bad Gerber couldn't leave well enough alone.

I for one, am looking forward to your lithium test.

Thanks!

The Gerber ones aren't too bad. I have one that has been sitting on my desk being using regularly for about three years now and I have NEVER switched out the original battery. I think that's still pretty impressive.

Thanks thatmguy! I have a few of these lights laying around, and have never conducted my own test. Now I have an idea as to how long it might last! I guess that explains why I haven't changed the batteries (that I can remember, anyways). I do have a few lithiums on hand, so perhaps now would be a good time to change all the batteries out.

The Gerber version is an excellent light, but the CMG's were a step above. Absolutely K.I.S.S., bulletproof lights. You should get less runtime out of the lithium, but a flatter initial curve of bright light before it goes into 'moon' mode.

Yeah I love those CMG lights. I still use mine for hunting when walking to the deer stand in the woods when its pitch black dark. I bought a few right before they went out of business years ago....great little lights.
