i have this new local "maker space"

someone there donated a large Large LARGE old school foot pumped sharpening stone / wheel / thing...

the stone is not bad, but everything else...

my short / longer term project as a donation of time, is to rebuild it.

photos to come, i soon

maybe people have advise for me ;)

we'll have to dress the stone eventually (chips, etc, it's old!)

i'll probably completely rebuilt the frame, with hand tools, modern bronze bushings, might have to turn a new spindle...

exciting

what i HOPE is to find another one, and then do it AGAIN :D for me.

while i'm at it, we'll do a draw knife bench/vise thing - those have names that vary by region :D (like shave horse)

should be keen

in the mean time, thanks the Baron*x* i'll be shopping for a Grizzly 10 inch 70 rpm stone

Looking forward to pics of the rebuild! The Grizzly is a great unit, especially for the money. Just make sure to keep the gear box stuffed with heavy grease or the plastic gear gives out under very light pressure. With proper greasing you can bear down on it pretty hard.

i like mine, it grindstone slow for my taste though, also it might bust in winter, i dont use it as much as i'd like

I'm such a big stone hater. Had three pass through my life. No wait, 4. So happy to be rid of most of them. I look forward to vicariously experiencing your success.
