If you have been here long enough (however long "enough" is ), you probably don't need a strict definition of what I mean by old school Busses versus new school Busses. The differences include design, aesthetics, and in some cases, materials used. So which do YOU prefer???

Edited to add: Just in case choice 4 sways you, you can choose to vote for more than one here.

I always loved the SFNO. I also liked the BBSHSH and the SHSH II design. I prefer the BBSHSH. It's also because the blade itself has a history. The BBSHSH was better in performance then the SFNO IMO. Also I prefer the smooth coating.

So I like the old school Busse's more.

I've only been around Busses a little over a year, but have had many as my bank account will attest to. I can honestly say that I like some of the old and some of the new. For me it really depends on the knife in question.

As far as handle designs go, I've had a few of each and have found that much of the comfort level depends on the blade it's attached to. For instance I love the ergos on my BA-E. I think the ergo handle on a short blade works well. That said I haven't handled a BM-E or SH-E. I did own an NO-E for a bit.

I'm not that fond of the TAC handle (i.e. BATAC). The central hump just wasn't that comfortable for me, but I have small hands. I sold all three of my BATACS, including the LE.

The handle on the ASH-1 LE is tops. I can't find anything wrong with it. It's a great design. I wish I had an old school SH to compare it too, but at today's prices that ain't happening.

I also like the Fusion handle, particularly on the FBM. I had a snakeskin handled CGFBM that was just badass. I really regret letting that one go. That said, if I bought another one, I would go for mags this time. They really fill the hand nicely.

As for handle materials, I prefer micarta to G-10 in virtually every case. The G-10 is just too slick for me to feel comfortable with. I really like the grip you get with canvas and linen micarta.

I still hope to get my hands on a FSH at some point, maybe a Heavy Heart if the price is right. I think the Fusion handle on a blade that size would be killer.

I could talk about this stuff for hours. I'm interested in reading what the "Old HOG Guard" has to say.

The F and E series are great....but the "old school" SH models really do it for me. :) I just wish I had more of them. Of course, I'm also including the Basics as "old school". The B9 is my favorite beater.

Having the choice "the Busse crew rocks" really skews this poll making it not very accurate at all...

.............Old school all the way..............

I'm already ahead of you. Before posting the poll, I included the feature of allowing those who partake to choose more than one choice. :D

I'm a noob, but the first Busse that brought me to the edge of pulling the trigger was the NOe. I almost had one, but some money issues arose. However, the first Busse I actually got was the BATACLE. Something about that knife just beckons to me, and the truth is that I'll probably never use it, especially since I have a Fehrman Last Chance, which is in that size range. I'm now waiting on a TigerWarden from Paddling Man, and the next knife I'm getting will probably be a BM of some sort. Sold some electronics, and have been considering grabbing an FBMLE, but I'm afraid the same thing that happened with the BATACLE will happen with the FBMLE and I won't want to use it. When the Muks come out, I will get one of each, and those will be kitchen knives for awhile.

I guess I like the new designs better.

There are many i haven't held but after scoring my first SHSHII it felt so good and moved me so much i sold everything that wasn't a straight handle so i could buy more that were :) old school for this wanna be piglet.

Going for new as the FFBM and the HR from are my firm favorites.
Still I think there's room for a couple of older classics in my collection, if and when I get the cash.

I want Jerry to continue coming up with new designs and ideas, because I know it will lead to a better design in the end.

I have to admit, at first I only liked the new handle profiles. But over time, the old straight handles started to grow on me. Now I like them all.

I really like the simplicity of the older straight handles over a few of the newer designs (mainly the fusion and TAC handles). That said, I can't wait for the SARsquatch and Hog Muk!

Although I like the old school knives, for me they are not at all the same thing as the new knives.

I’ll buy older knives to collect -and use if I can find a user- but I’m not going to go beat on a mint SHBM, BA, or SH.
To me the newer knives are things I buy to use and the old ones to collect.
