Anyone have any idea on the approximate value of one of these 119 sheaths?

Thanks

Mitch I can not tell you what they are worth, I can only tell you what I gave for the last 119 that I bought with that style of sheath about a month ago. Which was 35.00 plus tax from a pawn shop. I do like that style of sheath as I have three of them in the 119 style. HL

As with many things, researching e-Bay and selling on e-Bay is often a good choice.

As you get into the older (and oldest) sheaths they increase in value pretty fast because sheaths often take more of a beating than knives.

A few sheaths get to be worth more than knives of the same age.

Swivels are well-liked.

None. All I know is it doesn't have BUCK stamped on the front. The only stamping is 119 on the back. The snap says BUCK across it.

mbj I can not say for sure what year they came out, but every one of my 119's that came in that style of sheath is a 1x2 spacer. I think maybe late 70's or early 80's should be about right. Depending on when Buck did the 1x2 spacer 119's. HL

I4Bucks the 3 spacer knives were circa '81 only... so the sheath maybe fron that time, I'll have to look in to that...

mbj I was under the impression they where 1981, but then I read in the post's that the 119's and 120's in the three spacer style came out early. So now I am wondering as to when they really did come out. HL

Tele,
I think you are a little off. The three lint blade stamp with 4 spacers were produvced from '73- '80. In '81 Buck removed one spacer, At this stage in the manufacturing game they are only for looks and dont serve as what they were ment for in the first place, which was to shim up the handle and make it straight. In late '81 through '85 they removed another spacer, leaving only two. In '86 they started using date code as we all know.

Tele,
I can send you a 100 series power point if you give me an email addy.

Either we are talking about different things or one of us is wrong. I note that you participated in the discussion in the thread that I cited above in my earlier reply to I4BUCK's comments there, and actually provided examples of a 4 spacer 119 and 120. There seemed to be almost universal agreement among the posters in that thread that the 4 spacers ( as I understand that to be the red spacers between the aluminum spacers) ended in early 1973. Please read the thread cited above in note #9.

Where are we going in different directions?

The discussion you are refering to was a concern that certain knives such as the 119 and 120 skipped the traditional style history and went from a tip down 3 line blade stamp to a tip up three line blade stamp with only three red micarta spacers, Skipping the three line blade stamp(read tip up) with 4 red micarta spacer style. I showed that this knife existed although some didn't believe it did.

The question here is when was the tip up three line balde stamp with 4 red micarta spacers was made/produced and when did they change to having only three micarta spacers. The answer is... the three line blade stamp w/four red micarta spacers went from 1973-1980. In '81 they removed a spacer leaving only three. In late '81 they removed another, leaving two. This pattern went from '81-'85...

Last year I wanted to update the 100 series data sheet so I dug out all my sample knives, and grabbed as many "completes" from auctions online. I assume that a knife complete in the box with papers is accurate information and use this in my data base.
The more I dug into it, the more I became convinced that the 119 followed its own path through the years with regards to handle spacers, sheath type, box, ect... My original goal was to publish a data sheet of All 100 seried fixed. It soon became aparant that there will eventually be a data sheet for each knife. To date, all I have is one for the 119, which I will gladly share upon request. There are a lot of holes yet to be filled.

My data says we went from 4 to 3 micarta spacers, on the 119, in 1973. It also shows that we started using that "swinging loop" sheath in 1973.
I hope this helps.
